      It all began in 1991 on a bike.  Original Buff® Headwear was developed by Joan Rojas, a textile manufacturer, who struck gold one day while riding his motorcycle on the desolate Catalan roads of Spain.  “I was wearing some military briefs around my neck to protect me from the wind and cold and I got the idea to improve them because they were itchy and looked pretty ugly.”   Rojas began working on drawings and carrying out tests in the family’s textile factory until he found a way of manufacturing a seamless, tubular garment out of microfiber.  
      In the two decades since, Buff® has become an international, multi-sport phenomenon. Our seamless multifunctional headwear protects athletes on the windiest Alpine slopes, the hottest deserts and plenty of rivers, lakes, roads and trails in between. 

       

It all started in the 50s...
Would you believe we started out as a small chain of convenience stores? It's true. Way back in 1958. We were called Pronto Markets. In '67, our founder, the original Trader Joe, changed our name (yes, to Trader Joe's) and the way we do business. We made the stores bigger (if you can imagine), decked the walls with cedar planks and donned our crew in cool Hawaiian shirts. Most importantly, we started putting innovative, hard-to-find, great-tasting foods in the "Trader Joe's" name. That cut our costs and saved you money.
