Camping is available on Mt. Taylor, both in established campgrounds and dispersed camping. Contact the Forest Service for current fire restrictions and more information.



The Mt. Taylor Quadrathlon  is the premier winter endurance event in New Mexico, covering 43 miles up and down the mountain. The "Quad" is held on President's Day weekend.  Come experience Mt. Taylor in the winter! 



Nearby hiking opportunities exist for those who crave more exploration at
El Malpais National Conservation Area "With over 200,000 acres of land, the Bureau of Land Management conservation area is one of the premier outdoor recreation sites in New Mexico. Two designated wilderness areas offer solitude and space. Visitors can enjoy one of New Mexico's largest natural arches at La Ventana on Highway 117 south of the BLM Ranger Station."


The
New Mexico Mining Museum preserves the history of the uranium boom that swept the southwest in the 1950s and lasted through the early 1980s with and elevator that takes visitors down into a complete recreation of an underground uranium mine.
